"Crows Nest" Student Accommodation, University College Cork

J.V. Tierney are delighted to be involved in the 8,650m² “Crows Nest” project for University College Cork with McCullough Mulvin Architects. The project is on track to be completed this year.

Crows Nest UCC will provide accommodation to 255 UCC students as well as a health & wellbeing area, a café, and multiple communal areas with dining, kitchen, and living room space.

The development consists of 4 towers which vary in height to create an alluring backdrop to the existing urban streetscape. Great progress has been made on the project, with scaffolding now removed and the buildings unique exterior unveiled.

J.V. Tierney are acting as Mechanical, Electrical & Sustainable Design Engineers on the project. Our design approach in collaboration with UCC is underpinned by a drive towards energy-efficiency, decarbonisation, and climate mitigation.

Our deliverables on the project include low energy design features such as Direct Weather Compensation, High Efficiency Mechanical Heat Recovery, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and passive ventilation.

The “Crows Nest” project continues to be a prosperous collaboration between University College Cork, McCullough Mulvin Architects, and a construction team led by John Sisk & Son Ltd.
