JV Tierney & Co Consulting Engineers & Ireland’s First BIM Level 2 Project

The Clinical Education & Research Centre (CERC) is a major 3,442 sqm building that sits on the grounds of the University Hospital Limerick site. Completed in December 2016, it was the first public works development using BIM Level 2 deliverables to be carried out in Ireland.

JV Tierney & Co Consulting Engineers are proud to have been part of the design team for this ground-breaking project.

Building Information Modelling

Building Information Modelling (BIM) allows for collaboration across the design team, between architects and quantity surveyors throughout both the design and construction process. As the technology is more widely adopted, it is becoming the benchmark in the global construction industry.

What is BIM Level 2?

There are a number of levels of BIM; Level 0 is non-collaborative 2D CAD - Level 1 is a mix of 2D and 3D - and Level 2 is a collaborative design using entirely 3D modelling and associated data.

Collaboration

This landmark development required the entire design team to agree and commit to the use of BIM from the beginning of the project. From the outset, the team were focused and unified in the delivery of the project.

At J.V. Tierney & Co., our experienced staff possess the necessary technical skills and BIM software - including Revit, IES, Amtech Pro and Autodesk Ecotect, to deliver the most complex of projects.`

Since 2010 - we have completed a number of projects using BIM technology for clients including Tesco, Lidl as well as the Limerick CERC.
